Reiki Hand Positions
Self treatment is the main focus of a Reiki Level 1 course as healing always starts with ourselves first. There are about 13 hand positions taught in my reiki level 1 course covering from the head right down to the feet. I recommend to students that they take 2-3 mins at each place which is about an 30-60 minutes of self practice each evening until there learn to trust their intution to know when to move onto the next placement.
For those who have experienced reiki, you know how you feel after 1 hour of receving reiki – lighter, calmer, relaxed and more positive. So imagine being able to give yourself 5-7 hours of reiki per week : what difference would that make to your life?
Of course, the questions always arises:
Do I have to do all the placements?
No. There are numerous ways to give yourself a reiki treatment and it’s to find the way that works best for you. As Mrs Takata said a little reiki is better than no reiki. You’ll find once you place your hands on the first position that the rest will follow and you will feel the energy flow. It is always wonderful to take the time to sit with ourselves and do a full body treatment and yet if doing a shortened version works best for you and allows you to keep the self practice up then that is what you do.
The most important thing is that you practice. Every day. Just for Today, I will do my self healing.
However, you will find that if you use the same hand positions daily then you don’t ‘think’ about what is happening and rather become more meditative in your practice.
What happens if I forget a hand position or sequence?
Nothing. The reiki will flow to wherever you need it to go. No hand placement is more powerful than other.
